madder

Mordanted fibres (I used alum and cream of tartar).

After dyeing with ground madder root from Wild Colours.

I really enjoy the processes involved in natural dyeing. The scouring, mordanting and finally dyeing. Seeing what emerges from the dye bath. I've had this madder bath going for a week now and the colour has just started to fade, but I've been left with a glowing pile of fabrics ready to be annotated and made into teaching samples.
